custom screen printed shortsI intended to go through my kids’ summer clothes almost two months ago over spring break. That has not happened yet. I know, I’m so on top of things. Anyway, with summer just around the corner, I really can’t put it off much longer. My daughter is done with track and my son only has Peewee baseball games on Saturdays, so I really have no excuse not to get it done some afternoon after school. With only three weeks of school left, methinks I am running out of time! Anyway, I was talking to my older daughter about what kinds of clothes she is going to want to get for the summer. I am thinking she is the one who will need the most new stuff since she is twelve and a half and growing like a weed. She told me that the shirts she likes the most are tie-dyed t-shirts. She said she also likes tank tops. And for shorts, she said that mesh shorts are her favorite because they’re so comfortable. Thank goodness she doesn’t want those nasty looking short-shorts that so many young girls want to wear these days! I guess now all that’s left is to find out just how much she needs and get to shopping!

t-shirt printingI was wearing a screen printed t-shirt and sitting near my dianthus flowers the other day, taking photo after photo of some black swallowtails, when I noticed another largish bug flying around the flowers. At first glance it almost looked like a bee, but that didn’t quite seem to fit. It did a lot of hovering over the flowers, kind of like a hummingbird, and never really landed allowing its wings to rest. I zoomed in and got quite a few shots of it along with the butterflies. At one point I almost thought it was going to land on the capris I was wearing, but it never did land. I did a Google search when I got inside and found out that this particular bug is called a clear-winged sphinx moth. Who knew? I had no idea that it was just a moth. The funny thing is that according to my research it does indeed like to imitate bees and hummingbirds in order to confuse any predators. What I liked the most about it was its clear wings. I got a few shots at a high enough shutter speed to capture the wings and they look pretty cool. I especially like the ones that showed how iridescent the wings are. Now my young daughter wants wings just like that to attach to her tank tops to wear all summer.

Running apparel

uncatorized

My daughter’s track team recently had their conference track meet. I was so excited that I was able to go because when I was in track and field as an eighth grader, we won our conference meet, so I know how big of a deal that conference meet is. When I got to the meet [...]

Cold weather gear

uncatorized

My eight year old’s first peewee baseball game is coming up this Saturday. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not looking good. At the moment they are saying that it is supposed to be rainy and quite chilly with highs only in the mid-fifties. Brrrr! I’ll have to make sure to have him wear a long-sleeved [...]

Music Shirts

uncatorized

I have discovered a new music duo that I absolutely adore. They are called The Civil Wars. Heck, I just love their name! Their music is kind of a bluesy, folky, country (but not too much), singer-songwriter kind of style. It’s pretty mellow, and I am in heaven. I love how their notes just slide [...]

Tie-dyed radar

uncatorized

How can something so pretty on radar be so dangerous? According to the Kansas weather guy I was watching online late Saturday night, this little storm had possibly been producing a large, wedge tornado consistently for at least SIX HOURS. It had been tornado warned consistently and continuously for all of those six hours, and [...]

Red running tights

uncatorized

The red running tights debacle has been rectified. Last week, I called every store I could think of trying to find red running tights for my daughter to wear under her track uniform to keep warm on these cool spring evenings. They were to be found in only one store in my entire area. And [...]

Color palette

uncatorized

When it comes to my t-shirts, I like my color palette to be pretty limited. I’m a very conservative person when it comes to what I wear and never, ever want to wear an article of clothing that screams “Look at me!” When it comes to the photos I take, however, getting people to look [...]

Hunting for leggings

uncatorized

With my older daughter in track this spring, I have had to supplement her track uniform with cold weather gear. Boy, has that been a debacle. Her coaches said that the compression tights had to be red. I have searched high and low and have not been able to find them in red. I was [...]

Team uniforms

My seventh grader just started her first year of track last week. She’s an athletic young girl, although not really into team sports, so I’m hoping that track just might be her thing. It looks like I just might be right. The first couple of days of practice the coaches tried the girls out on [...]
